San Michel Open 2018
IK Tennis Academy had again 5 players in the tournament (Oli, Sebi, Jamie, Betha and Strahinja).
Sebastian Farrin Thorne unfortunately lost his first round in U10 against tournament finalist Jakob Letsch. However, Sebi continued in the tournament’s consolation which he eventually won. He played the final against Julian Grech. He did not start off really well loosing 1:5 in the first set but then impressively climbing back to 4:5 but loosing set 4:6. Second set was completely different and Sebi soon led 5:0 loosing 2 games with a lack of concentration but winning 6:2 taking this match into a tie-break in the third set. tie-break was very tight but Sebi showed better nerves eventually winning 9:7. Congratulations to Sebi!
Oliver Farrin Thorne lost his first round in U10 against the future winner Zak Zammit. In the consolation Oli met Julian Grech whom he beat a week ago in three sets in Marsa. However, this time Julian was the better one winning 7:4 in tie-break of the third set.
Jamie Grech won his first round in U10 against Julian Grech with a solid performance 6:1, 6:2. Then, in the second round Jamie was playing agaisnt his football friend and future winner Zak Zammit. Jamie showed his potential and willingness but Zak was too strong for him winning 6:0, 6:0.
Betha Anne Mayo played round robin format in U10 girls. Betha ended up second winning 2 matches in straight sets and loosing only against tournament winner Emma Montebello. Betha lost against Emma Montebello also in the first round of the U12. It’s a pity that not many girls participate in such tournaments and the same girls have to play against each other all the time. But a big well done for both Betha and Emma.
Strahinja Djukic participated in both U12 and U14 boys tournaments. This time Strahinja showed his full potential and won both competitions all in straight sets. He remained focused throughout and implented what was done in training during that week. Both final games were against Dwayne Pullicino. The results of U12 was 6:4, 6:0 and 6:1, 6:1 in U14. Big Congratulations to Strahinja!
